A Digital Explanation: Rugby

Because of the Rugby World Cup kicking off (heh heh, rugby pun) Room 5 and 6 were to create a Digital explanation about the game rugby, for all of the people out there who don't know much about the game - including me....
So here we go!

Rugby is one of the most popular sports in New Zealand and Australia and is a ball involved game. Here is my digital explanation about the game in spirit of the Rugby World Cup 2015 (hosted by England).

Rugby was invented by William Webb Ellis, when he decided to cheat during a game of football at school. He picked up the ball and ran, and then the game of rugby began. It is called rugby because the school William Webb Ellis invented the sport at was named Rugby School.

In 1871 the RFU (Rugby Football Union) was created. They are the people who wrote the official rules.

In rugby there are fifteen players on each side, the faster players are called the backs. They play on fields, or pitches as they call it, which are about 100m long. It starts off with a person kicking the ball from the centre, and it must go at least 10m. The players are allowed to pick up the ball, run with it and throw the ball to their team mates. Players are not allowed to pass the ball forward, but to side or a little bit behind. If they throw the ball forward a penalty is put in place.

Hitting and/or kicking is definitely not allowed. But a handoff is - touching a player above the eyebrows with a bent arm and straightening the arm to push the opponent away.

The ball is not round, but is oval-shaped. Here is a picture of a rugby ball.

My favourite rugby team is the All Blacks because they are from New Zealand. They always try their best and their Haka performances are amazing. I wish them good luck in the Rugby World Cup. Will they win twice in a row?!

So that is my digital explanation of the popular sport, rugby. After reading this, do you want to play?
